Choosing favourites

The Supervillain Next Door has been out for a few weeks now and it’s been great to hear that readers are enjoying it. One part of the publicity process that I’ve really enjoyed is visiting schools to talk about the book and the writing process. During one visit, one of the children asked me a question that made me think: who was my favourite character?

I’d love to say that I instantly launched into a lengthy prepared answer, but in reality it’s a REALLY tough question to answer – every character in the book was great fun to write, or has a moment that makes me smile. The natural answer might have been to say Steve – after all, he’s the main character and the one who has the difficult task of saving the day.

But when I thought about it some more, I realised that while Steve is great, I had a soft spot for another character: his best friend, Peter. He may not be responsible for saving the day, but still plays a vital role in supporting Steve and being there for him. He’s loyal, dependable and kind, and no matter how scared he might be, he always tries to support his friend. He also features in my favourite section of the book, where his and Steve’s exploration of Mr Hunter’s basement leads to a most unexpected transformation…

So that’s my pick – who would you choose? Leave a comment and let me know!
